QUASR Guest Lecture Series

The Queensland Unit for Advanced Shoulder Research will host its first Guest Lecture Series on Tuesday 5th May 2020, 4pm (AEST).

QUASR is receiving Dr Dong Wang and Dr Asma Salhi who will present their research.

Dr Wang will talk about Wear Testing in Shoulder Implants. Dr Wang is a Lecturer in Engineering and Entrepreneurship at University of Exeter in the UK. He gained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Glasgow and studied Biomedical Engineering at University of Dundee for the MSc after the graduation from a medical school in China.
His multi-disciplinary research was developed through collaborations with surgeons, academics and industrial partners, involving developing laboratory prototypes and taking them through commercialisation, clinical validation and human testing to make a real-world impact.

Dr Salhi will present on the Combination of Data-driven Bone Shape Models with Multibody Musculoskeletal Modelling Framework and its application in Paediatric Shoulder Joint Disorder(s). Dr Salhi is a postdoctoral research fellow at IMT Atlantque, LaTIM U1101 in France. She received her Masters degree in Computer Science with Honors from ENSI University in Tunisia. In 2019, she completed her PhD from IMT Atlantique, France, a technological university and in association with French National Institute of Health’s (INSERM) research laboratory of excellence (LaTIM U1101). Her research interests focus on developing personalised, musculoskeletal and data-driven models that can be used as clinical diagnostic tools in treating musculoskeletal disorders.

QUASR LAunch

The Queensland Unit for Advanced Shoulder Research had its official launch on Friday 31st January 2020 at Gibson Room, QUT Garddens Point Campus. The event was well attended with over 80 participants. Continuing with the core values of QUASR, the launch brought together clinicians, scientists, students, engineers and industry partners to showcase work done at the unit over the past 18 months.

The morning session was dedicated to the official opening of QUASR with talks from executive members of IHBI and SEF, followed by Prof Peter Pivonka and Adj Assoc Prof Ashish Gupta. Our valued industry partners (Wright Medical, Surgical Specialties, Zimmer Biomet, Greenslopes Private Hospital and Materialise) also came on stage to share their vision on the unit and how our relationship can enhance future technology and patient care in the area of shoulder orthopaedics.

This was followed by research team presentations which gave the opportunity to QUASR members to showcase their state-of-the-art research.
